Circumcision in Older Children
Dr. Adam Kern performs elective circumcisions for older children and adolescents. This is often done either for cultural reasons or preference, or for medical indications including pathologic phimosis. Circumcision in these age ranges is performed as a brief outpatient plastic surgical procedure under anesthesia.
If you would like to inquire about a circumcision for an older child or adolescent, please schedule an office consultation with Chesapeake Urology for Children.
Caring for the Circumcised Penis
- Apply ointment, such as A&D or Vaseline, to the penis several times a day for the first three weeks following the procedure.
- Keep the area dry.
- Watch for any signs of infection such as a green/white drainage and redness extending from the shaft of the penis up on to the stomach wall.
- Call your pediatrician or your surgeon immediately if you notice any sign of infection.
